About the Edgewater Hall

The Community Hall was originally the old cannery towed over and located in the centre of town. In 1937, Eilof Madsen, a Danish shipbuilder headed up a large crew of volunteers who built a large hall beside the little structure. This served countless functions until finally, around 1976, it became unusable. A community rebuilding effort got the building onto a new foundation and improved every aspect from acoustics to plumbing, it is now quite a pleasant and useful addition to the village.

Edgewater is an interesting and proud old agricultural settlement boasting Canada's last longest flume, an elevated aquaduct stretching for miles back from the canyon to the benchlands. For many years, Edgewater supplied tons of produce to fine hotels in Banff, the villages of Exshaw, Lake Louise. The possibilities are still there as safe, organic produce commands an increasing premium price, but tourism is growing by leaps and bounds, making other land-uses difficult.

The land and irrigation system, community, and market are conducive to a self-dependant, productive and lively livestyle, come and support the Edgewater Entrepreneurs!
